Mount Abang Trekking Distance – Mount Abang is the third highest mountain in Bali. It has the highest peak of 2152 meters above sea level which is part of the Batur Caldera. As we know, the Batur Caldera region is one of the UNESCO World Heritages whose beauty is admired by many people around the world.
People who have visited Mount Abang must look about the trekking distance. It is shorter than you can imagine before. The trekking distance is about 7 km up and 7 km down, mean in total the trek is about 14 km. Climbing to Mount Abang was pleasant with its authentic fresh air and the tweet of forest animals that seemed to accompany the climbers.
This place is perfect for those of you who like adventure and are looking for freedom after a busy bustle. Don’t expect easy tracks like spots to see the sunrise on the tops of other mountains in Bali. Mount Abang Sunrise Trek will provide the sensation of adventure in the rain forest, a sacred trip through the sacred temple on the mountain, and the heaven-like atmosphere that you will never have in other hidden places.
When Is The Right Time To Climb Mount Abang?
All climbers crave sunny weather as they climb. Fine weather makes clear eyesight. They also do not need to carry many items such as raincoats, thick jackets, and supply foods like when climbing in the rainy season. When taking photos, it does not require too much effort to get good light. The path traversed is not slippery. It is easier for you to walk.
It is better to climb Mount Abang when the weather is good. So, you can predict the appearance of the sunrise and enjoy it when the orange-yellowish sphere comes. Fine weather comes with clean white clouds hanging in the sky as if it were a curtain that covered the view of Mount Batur behind it. Do not miss the magical misty that hung in the sky before sunrise. You can enjoy this view if you reach the top of Mount Abang under 5 o’clock in the morning. Amazing.
Climbing Preparation
Climbing Mount Abang has about the same preparation as other mountain climbing. These are all you need to prepare.
Get to know the terrain of Mount Abang. Mount Abang is located in the Kintamani area. It is not too difficult to reach. It is just when you arrive at the forested hiking trail, you will be accompanied by a row of trees, mountain plants, flowers, and mountain animals. The terrain is in the form of soil with cool air and dense condition. Your eyesight can be vague because it covered by mist when you start climbing under 5 a.m.
Get to know your body. The difficulty level is quite high, therefore, you must be in a really fit condition. Basic survival skills in the forest and mountains are also needed.
Carry your supplies in one backpack. Avoid carrying handbags on your left and right hand which will be troublesome along the way. The contents of your bag at least contain a jacket or warm clothes, headlamp, dry food or staple food in a safety lock container, warm drinks in a small thermos or tumbler, wet tissue for urinating need, lighters for a campfire, medicine such as topical oil or headache pills. Do not forget gloves if at any time you have to get rid of fallen trees or branches in front of you.
Strong mentality.
Change clothes such as t-shirts and trousers
Climbing routes that are obtained by searching on the internet or asking local people who are usually more understanding about the trek.
The Access Of Hiking Trail
The access to Mount Abang is quite easy. When you get to the starting point of the climb, you can see the signs provided along the hiking trail. From now on, you can learn the access to the Mount Abang trek distance climbing from where you stay, so you do not easily get lost. It is a good idea for you to stay at hotels in Kintamani or Ubud to make it easier for you to get access to Mount Abang.
From where you stay, use Google Map to find Suter Village in Bangli. You can go to Jalan Batur Tengah.
From Denpasar (it is about two hours to Kintamani), when you find the T-junction, you can turn left. Then, go straight ahead until you reach the last T-junction.
From this last T-junction, you go straight ahead to the Mount Abang climbing post officer. Here you can pay a very affordable entry ticket.
Park your vehicle in front of the hiking trail.
The Forest Route
Gunung Abang is famous for its unspoiled hiking trails and few visitors. When you get to the forest, you don’t need to be afraid of getting lost because the access is quite easy during good weather. But you may need a guide if this is your first hiking on Mount Abang.
However, if you are not confident with yourself, you can ask a guide from the post officer to accompany you during the climb or book this with the right Bali trekking company.
You have to arrive in the forest at least 3 a.m. to catch the sunrise around 5.30 a.m.
Follow the path in the forest. The path becomes slippery when it rains. You may find many leeches around you. Sometimes you also see the fallen trees in several hiking trails. Use the tree as a foothold when climbing.
You will see several holy temples in the middle of the mountain.
Why don’t you get a rest and take photos there?
The misty atmosphere from the top of mountain at 4 or 5 in the morning will beautify the scenic spot there. After sunrise, you can clearly see the beautiful background of Mount Batur and Batur caldera.
The Mount Abang trekking start point becomes closer when you are stay around Kintamani and Ubud. It would be better if you are in this art village before having do Mount Abang sunrise trekking.

An epic hike up a dormant volcano
An unforgettable adventure hiking up a dormant volcano, where the sunrise will take your breath away! This is truly one of the most awe-inspiring sunrises you'll ever witness. There’s a shimmering lake, with hundreds of rice paddies sparkling as the sunlight streams in. It's a magical experience perfect for couples seeking romance or a group looking to share an extraordinary moment.

Colazione con the dolci e uova. Tutto perfetto! Grazie mille!

A hike of a lifetime
The sunrise trek exceeded all expectations - it was spectacular to see the first breaks of light of the sun as we climbed higher and higher. We saw the sun come up as we reached the summit and it was incredible! We went as a family with three kids, aged 7 and 10. Our kids have done many hikes but we weren’t sure how this would go so we opted for the jeep/trek combo. The trek itself was challenging - the first half is gravel, lava rocks and sand with steep inclines - but our guide, Adi was amazing and encouraged and motivated us. One of our kids needed extra cheering on, and Adi helped us boost her so she felt like a true mountain girl when she reached the top. There were lots of places to stop and rest and Adi provided headlamps, trekking poles and lots of water. He really looked after us and we are so grateful to have had him as our guide. At the top, we could take in the beautiful scenery and watch the sun come up over the crater lake. Adi brought us coffee and hot chocolate along with sandwiches, chocolates, fruit and boiled eggs. After our hike down, we took the jeeps back to the parking lot where we took a short ride to the hot springs. The water slides were a bonus for the kids! The whole experience was so memorable - we are so happy we did it! We absolutely would recommend this adventure with this outfit.

Amazing views, amazing guide, amazing memories
The 1:30 taxi pickup filled us with dread, but the minute we began walking we realised how special this morning would be. We seamlessly were connected to our guide Jata and began walking through the forest. Although one of us was scared of potential bugs, there were thankfully none to be seen on the path, none at all! We kept following the trail of head torches up to the top where we stopped after around 2 hours (about 5 o’clock) in the best seats in the house. Tip: bring a hoody/fleese we were freezing in T-shirts! During and after the spectacular sunrise our guide took some amazing photos on our phones we were blown away. He cooked a breakfast of eggs and banana sandwiches and took us into the steaming volcano, then we began our descent back down. This was when we were able to talk to our guide more and find out more about what life was like living in rural Bali, and he was really knowledgable about the local wildlife and area. We got back to the car, exchanged details with Jata and travelled the long journey back to Nusa Dua with an amazing story to tell our family and friends. I could not recommend this morning for able-bodied travellers enough: perfect!!!

Must do trip in Bali
Trekking was such a great experience. Difficult hike however there were options for if you couldn’t make it all the way to the top. It was very worth it when the sun came up, so beautiful and magical. It was a seamless itinerary, planned appropriately for the sunrise. With food and trekking guide included. Our guide Donnn was amazing organising transfers to the top of for 2 members of our group. Also teaching us about the Balinese culture and nature also taking photos when needed. We throughly appreciate Donnns services. The sunrise was incredible! Must do trip in Bali!

Great company to take you sunrise watching
We booked a sunrise Jeep tour with black sand and lava before arriving to Bali. Teh communication was great, price was very fair. We were picked up on the day when we were told. Relaxing driver to the parking lot, transferred to a jeep and taken to the viewing spot. Also got a small breakfast - sandwiches, tea, fruit and candy. Later we were taken to black sand and lava field where we were explained some things by our driver. Taken back to teh parkin gand trasferred to a car to be dropped off at the hotel. A great experience with the company. The only thing that I was let down by was the sunrise itself - nothing extremelly special, really.
